At Cardinal Closets, we believe that the heart of our success lies in our dedicated team. Our Master Storage Designers collectively boast over three generations of experience in crafting customized storage solutions. Just as no two people are alike, no two closets are alike. With over 31 years of experience, we have proudly manufactured and installed over 16,000 custom storage solutions, each tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients.
In 1993 Cheryl and Leo Meyer opened Organization Matters Inc. after purchasing assets from an existing closet company that was a franchisee of the national industry leader. Since then, they have manufactured each and every closet and storage system right here in Louisville, KY. Around that same time, Steve Kahn, a seasoned closet designer from New York City relocated and joined the team. In 2001, Cheryl’s daughter, Kristi, joined the family business as a designer. Both Steve and Kristi have a large following of raving fans.
In February of 2012, after nearly 20 years of improving spaces all over Kentucky and Southern Indiana, Cheryl and Leo saw that Louisville needed a more affordable custom storage company. So they renamed their business “Cardinal Closets – Where Organization Matters.” As a purely local business, Cardinal Closets pays no royalty or franchise fees, thus passing those savings along to you. At that time the showroom continued to be in the Shelbyville Road Plaza.
In 2020 Cardinal Closets relocated their showroom to a larger 2,400 square foot space off Hurstbourne Pkwy, one block south of Shelbyville Road and are able to showcase more closet and storage displays and the newest options for their growing clientele.
In February 2012, after nearly two decades of transforming spaces across Kentucky and Southern Indiana, Cheryl and Leo recognized the need for a more affordable custom storage solution in Louisville. This realization led to the renaming of our business to "Cardinal Closets – Where Organization Matters." As a proud local business, we operate independently without the burden of royalty or franchise fees, passing those savings directly to our customers. Our commitment to providing affordable, high-quality custom storage solutions has remained steadfast.
In 2020, we relocated our showroom to a spacious 2,400 square foot facility on Hurstbourne Parkway, just one block south of Shelbyville Road. This move has allowed us to showcase a wider array of closet and storage displays, featuring the latest innovations and options for our growing clientele. Our showroom is a testament to our dedication to excellence, providing an immersive experience where clients can explore the possibilities of custom storage solutions.

Cheryl Meyer began her closet career in 1988 working for a small independent closet company in Louisville. Five years followed and she and her husband began Organization Matters, Inc. and operated the business under a franchised national brand name. For the past 12 years they have operated it as an independent local closet company. Cheryl has come full circle. As President of Cardinal Closets, she oversees the entire operation, but still loves to meet with clients and design any type of storage space. She has served three years on the National Advisory Board to the Closet Institute of America, an industry association for independent closet companies. She has been a featured speaker at a national closet industry convention. She has been active in the Building Industry Association of Louisville for 30 years, Women in Networking for 33 years and is a member of Louisville Independent Business Association. She and her husband Leo have 8 children and 15 grandchildren! Now you know why they called the business “Organization Matters.”
Kristi Kunaschk is the Lead Storage Designer with Cardinal Closets. She helps people get the most out of their storage space by working directly with the client to design a solution that meets their needs and budget. Since she began her career with Cardinal Closets in 2001, she has helped thousands of people enjoy their space again. She is certified in all areas of the home and has designed beautiful media centers, home offices, lavish pantries, luxurious dressing rooms as well as closets of all sizes and types. She is the “go-to” person for thinking of solutions outside the box and helping customers realize their vision. Kristi is the expert/trainer in the use and application of our CAD drawing system. “ I truly love helping people find their joy again. Closet spaces are often the “catch-all” of our lives and one of the spaces that we become the most frustrated with. Many believe that they don’t have the time or money to change the very thing they dread. I love to watch the expression change on their face when they see that I can fix their problem and it doesn’t cost a ton of money! I can hear the exhale of relief. I like to think that I’m helping couples, parents, families, and individuals alike with their own self-care.” Kristi and her husband, Jim, have been married for over 18 years, have four children and reside in beautiful Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Outside of designing storage spaces, Kristi is a 4-H Club Leader and Parent Volunteer, and a Cub Scout Den Leader.
